Commencement and Convocation Ceremonies
Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend both University Commencement and College Convocations with their graduates. For information about these events, please visit the Commencement Ceremony and Convocation Ceremony pages.
Huntsman Center Policies
Bag searches will be conducted for the safety and security of the graduates and the patrons attending the Commencement and Convocations ceremonies at the Huntsman Center. We will have a clear bag / no bag line for those who have a clear bag or do not bring a bag.
All bags/backpacks smaller than 16” x 16” x 8” are permitted into JMHC. Bags and containers are subject to inspection by gate security prior to entering the facilities. Hard-sided coolers and bags or backpacks with metal frames are not allowed.
For the comfort and safety of all, the following items are not permitted in Jon M. Huntsman Center: Alcohol, Aluminum Cans, Artificial Noisemakers, Coolers, Ice Chests, Thermoses, Drones, Fireworks, Flash Photography, Glass Bottles, Large Stadium Seats, Outside Food or Drink, Umbrellas (Ponchos are recommended), Weapons (The University of Utah does comply with all local and federal regulations).
The Huntsman Center reserves the right to inspect and remove any packages and containers.

Flowers will be available to purchase for graduates at the commencement and convocation events, or you can purchase the flowers online.
Although there is not a luncheon, some of the convocations will have a light reception for their graduation candidates and guests. The Union food court will also be open for service. Visit the University Dining Services website for information about dining opportunities close to commencement and convocation ceremony locations.
Guests traveling to Salt Lake City may wish to consider The University Guest House, located on campus, and offering deluxe accommodations at budget prices. You can also visit the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau or Utah Travel Industry websites for helpful information on accommodations, places to visit, and local transportation.

If you find yourself with a little extra time, there's plenty to see around the University of Utah. Here are just a few ideas: Natural History Museum of Utah, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Red Butte Garden, Kingsbury Hall, Utah Athletic events, Clark Planetarium, and Salt Lake Acting Company.
